Man of La Mancha Huge Success

NEARLY $20,000 RAISED FOR NCCC FROM SPECIAL BENEFIT PERFORMANCE AT THE LAGUNA PLAYHOUSE

It was an inspiring example of non-profit organizations working together to help those in need, particularly in these challenging times. The powerful Tony Award-winning musical, MAN OF LA MANCHA was presented for one night only to benefit the non-profit Newport Community Counseling Center in Newport Beach on Monday, April 27, 2009 to an enthusiastic audience of approximately 350 people at The Laguna Playhouse in Laguna Beach.

“We are thrilled to report net proceeds of nearly $20,000, a fundraising record for our organization,” said Linda Belt, executive director of the Newport Community Counseling Center (NCCC). “Our Advisory Board and Board of Directors did a wonderful job supporting this event. These funds will be directed toward our programs for women in transition and victims of domestic violence, as well as our programs for other individuals and families in need of professional counseling services who may not have health insurance. We want to be able to help as many people as possible in this difficult economy.”

MAN OF LA MANCHA was presented under an Equity contract by the non-profit Brehm Center at Fuller Graduate School in Pasadena (www.brehmcenter.org) on the stage of The Laguna Playhouse, which is a 501 (c) (3) public benefit organization dedicated to enriching lives through the magic of live theatre. The show featured a company of 18 professional actors/singers accompanied by a live band whose members include musicians performing on the “Dancing with the Stars Tour,” on Grammy award-winning albums for artists such as Marc Anthony, and the music director/keyboard artist for jazz great Herbie Hancock.
