What Our Clients Say About NCCC
NCCC has helped thousands of individuals navigate life’s challenges. Here are just a few testimonials from our clients, whose names have been changed to protect their privacy.
Cliff
Sought help with anger management issues.
"Cliff" didn't want to repeat the cycle of abuse he'd seen in his own family, but his hot temper caused the failure of his first three marriages. Then, something clicked. After abusing his fourth wife in front of their two-year-old grandson, he knew he had to stop.
So, he searched for a resource that offered professional anger management counseling—and found NCCC.
Although he'd tried therapy in the past, his time at NCCC made all the difference. He was so committed to making a change that he not only enrolled in the Center's group program for anger management once, but three times in a row.
"I wanted to go until I got it right!" said Cliff, who learned how to think things through before reacting and found that much of his anger stemmed from the abuse he had witnessed as a child. He also learned that certain things in life are beyond his control but managing his anger and emotions are well within his control.
Since completing the program in 1999, Cliff has become a supportive and nurturing husband and he and his wife recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary.
"Newport Community Counseling Center offers their group programs, like the anger management program, at very reasonable rates," explained Cliff, who even makes a generous donation to NCCC every year as his way of giving back.
Rose
Found the strength to leave an abusive marriage.
“Rose” has faced many difficult challenges, including divorce from an alcoholic husband, followed by a relationship with a man who was a pathological liar. With the help of NCCC, she left this dysfunctional relationship.
“I’m taking a stand for a better life,” said Rose. “NCCC was a big help to me in accomplishing this.”
Matt
Found support and guidance during a time of transition.
"Matt" had finally met the love of his life only to have the relationship sour. The break-up was so rough on Matt that his ex-girlfriend advised him to seek one-on-one counseling at NCCC.
Once there, he learned that his self-esteem needed some serious work, and that he also needed help transitioning from 20 plus years as a student to life as a working adult.
Three years later, Matt's self-esteem improved, and he developed the confidence needed to successfully transition to the adult world.
"I don't even recognize the person who walked in three years ago!" exclaimed Matt. "My friends and family noticed the change as well."
The sliding scale fee structure provided by NCCC was also beneficial.
"I was enrolled in graduate school when I started my sessions and I only worked part time," he said. "The low costs allowed me to participate in sessions on a weekly basis. Now that I'm working full time, my fees are being adjusted but the sessions are definitely worth it. It's been a great voyage of self-discovery."
